At Jagriti, we are convinced that women are central to India's development in the next decade and we are committed to bringing out their hidden potential. Empowering women is not just an activity to lift up a weaker section of society for its own sake; it is a mandatory action to achieve an India that works. It is not something we are doing just for the women of India; it is something we have to do if we are to have an India- an India that is equitable and prosperous.
In the Yatra, we strive to have equal participation of women as Yatris, facilitators and role models. (We had 40% women on board in the last Yatra) During the 15 days, many Yatrinis discover their individuality and their voices. They meet inspiring women entrepreneurs not just in the organisations we visit but also within the Yatris and Facilitators who have overcome numerous challenges to make themselves successful. And most importantly, they become connected to a huge network of optimism, support and collaboration that spreads across India. This connectivity keeps them going long after the Yatra ends.
This year, we are determined to get 50% participation from women on Jagriti Yatra 2012. You can help us achieve this target of 225 passionate women on train, by getting at least one woman registered at www.jagritiyatra.com/register
