Our goal is to select youngsters that are potential social and business entrepreneurs and facilitators who can help them maximize the learning on the journey. We have a carefully planned and tested process which we use to evaluate the applications. While aiming for the best candidates, our focus remains the economic middle of India. In addition we aim for equal representation of male –female candidates and an even regional spread within India. We also seek applications from NRI candidates whose global exposure adds to the richness of debate on the journey.
All the candidates selected by the selection board of Yatra are "Yatris". The success of the Yatra depends largely on the quality of the Yatris.

We have two kinds of Yatris - Participants and Facilitators.
They are young candidates in the age group of 20-25 who want to be the change they want to see around them.
The Facilitators are experienced professionals who are keen to join the movement for enterprise led development. They may be entrepreneurs, teachers or mid-career employees seeking to switch to enterprise.
The Facilitator manages a critical dual role of a coordinator and mentor of Yatris. The responsibilities of a Facilitator can be summed up as:
While we do not expect Yatris to turn into entrepreneurs on day 19, there is a great moral responsibility on the Yatris to assimilate the experience of the Yatra and translate it into positive actions when they return to their lives.
You can apply in Hindi for Jagriti Yatra 2011. The online regsitration system has been enabled to type phonetically using Roman characters. All you have to do is to type a word the way it sounds in English and it will be converted to Hindi. Alternatively you can type on MS Word using Mangal font and copy-paste here. In case you don't have good internet access, you can download the Hindi form and send us the filled form by post.
The application form consists of a series of essay questions designed to ascertain the candidate’s ability to think outside the box, his/her understanding of the challenges that face India and the commitment to solve them through enterprise. It is a subjective evaluation of the raw entrepreneurial potential within a candidate by a selection panel of 20 experts. The Facilitators are further judged on their professional experience and ability to coordinate and manage youth activities.
Yatris: Bright youngsters between the ages of 20 to 25, who have demonstrated entrepreneurial abilities and can communicate well in either Hindi or English.
Facilitators: Professionals above 25 years of age who have demonstrated expertise in a thematic area of the Yatra, ability to work with youth, good communications and language skills.
Sponsorship opportunities are available for the applicants on basis of their financial need and merit. If you have opted for full or part sponsorship and your application is approved by our team of selectors, you proceed to fill up the next form where you give your financial background. Here you also need to submit an authentic document supporting your income claim. Please note that sponsorships through Jagriti Yatra are limited and will be awarded to the most deserving candidates only. Therefore select the sponsorship option carefully. We also urge selected Yatris to look for alternative sources of sponsorship.
